Pin Registration

Precision Pin Registration for Cylinders and Flat Bases

BuntingĀ® Pin Registration can save you thousands of dollars annually in setup and registration time, false starts, redos, and materials. By using prepunched negatives and plates together with a BuntingĀ® Magnetic Cylinder or Flat Base fitted with matching pins, your press operators can achieve fast, accurate registration and remounts with far fewer on-press adjustments.

Pin Registration is a valuable option that lets you quickly and confidently position embossing, and hot stamping dies for Cylinders and Bases eliminates the need for extensive pre-press proofing and adjustment. Process plates and converting dies all but fall into place. With a minimum of setup time, you get fast, accurate mounting right on the press and a consistently high-quality product.

Pins guide plates into position, and our Magnetic Cylinders and Bases hold every square inch securely against their precision-ground surfaces. Photopolymer plates with the metal backing already attached and ready for mounting are available from many suppliers. Or you can laminate plates onto metal backing before they are exposed to the negatives. Either way, the metal backing prevents the stretching and distortion common in mylar-backed plates and allows frequent use without loss of quality.

The resulting quality will impress your customers, and the time you gain translates into extra capacity. Our Pin Registration option is in widespread use on narrow web rotary letterpresses, dry offset presses, and flexographic presses. We’ll be glad to demonstrate how they can be a profitable choice for these and other applications, as well.

Seven Steps to Quality Results in Record Time

1. Punch registration holes into the unexposed negative.
2. Punch matching holes into the unexposed photopolymer plate.
3. Expose the negative.
4. Place the negative over the photopolymer plate, using a pin bar for precise alignment, and expose the plate.
5. Process the photopolymer plate.
6. If you’re working with magnetic cylinders, use a BuntingĀ® Plate Former to curve the plate for perfect laydown.
7. Mount the plate to the pins. You can expect to complete your entire press run without repositioning.
