Special Purpose Magnetic Pulley
Bunting® Magnetic Separation Head Pulleys feature a radial magnetic field that eliminates “dead spots”.
Convert Your Belt Conveyors for Continuous Cleaning
Installed in conveyor lines, they provide continuous self-cleaning magnetic protection from ferrous contamination. Separation pulleys can be used as individual units or in combination with other Bunting® products.
SPECIFICATIONS
General material: Stainless steel outer face with mild steel end plates. Stainless steel end plates on 10” and 12” models.
Magnet material: High-density Ceramic or optional Rare Earth.
Magnet design: High reachout radial magnetic field.
Contaminant removal: Tramp iron such as nuts, bolts, wire, tools, and chain, etc. from free-flowing or clumping-type materials.
Method of cleaning: Self-cleaning.
Styles: Standard stainless steel flat face. Optional crowned face available in all styles. Optional vulcanized rubber lagging.
Sizes: Available in 6”, 8”, 10”, 12”, 18”, and 24” dia. and in desired widths in 2” increments.
Mounting: Standard hub with keyway and set screw on 6” and 8” models. Taper lock hubs used on 10”, 12”, 18”, and 24” dia. models. Optional slip shaft or welded-in shaft available. On 6” and 8” diameter pulleys, a stainless steel shaft is required. On all other sizes, the hollow bore design allows use of an existing mild steel shaft for economy. Optional crowned face and a variety of lagging materials are available to fit specific applications.
Uses: To protect facilities, equipment, and product from the hazards of tramp iron. Replaces the existing conveyor pulley at the product discharge end. Ideal for recycling applications.
How Magnetic Separation Pulleys Work
Bunting® Pulleys have a radial pole design that eliminates dead spots and provides superior retention of ferrous fragments. The radial design is especially effective in holding long, rod-shaped ferrous objects. It rotates them parallel to the pulley face to increase surface contact area for improved holding and separation efficiency.
The sketch below illustrates how Bunting® Separation Pulleys remove tramp metal from contaminated material. As the contaminated material comes into the magnetic field, the tramp metal is attracted and held to the belt until it passes out of the magnetic field. Cleaning is continuous and automatic.
Magnetic decreasing-force Take-Off Rail Assemblies convey small ferrous contaminants away from the intense magnetic field of the Bunting® Magnetic Separation Pulley, eliminating hang-up on the return side of the conveyor belt. The magnetic field is designed to have full magnetic force at the angled end, gradually decreasing down to almost zero at the discharge end for smooth release.
Magnetic V-Pulleys
V-Pulleys create a magnetic field that captures ferrous pipe sections and orients them inside the pulleys’ V-groove, which is designed specifically to handle pipe. For example, pipe fed horizontally to the V-Pulley will be captured and positioned radially in a “standing” orientation for further processing.
Magnetic Up-Stacker Pulleys
Up-Stacker Pulleys are specially made for use with flat circular ferrous parts. The Up-Stacker’s magnetic field and surface contours are designed to orient parts radially around the pulley. In the photograph, metal lids fed from a horizontal conveyor to an Up-Stacker Pulley reposition themselves for stacking or processing.
