Shredder/Grinder Feeder Conveyors for the Recycling Industry

Adding a Metal Detector or an Overhead Magnetic Crossbelt can protect your Shredder by inspecting all of your product and scrap before it is feed into the Shredder. That not only protects your Shredder teeth from being destroyed but also separates out the metal contaminant before it is shredded into hundreds of smaller pieces to maximize product purification. Bunting® Magnetics Co. offers three lines of Grinder Feeder Conveyors (GFC’s) depending of the application:
Heavy-Duty GFC Conveyors
These systems run between about 8,000 and 20,000# of product per hour and usually (to get that volume) feed large 1,000 to 2,000# bales, heavy purgings or bulk municipal recycling. These conveyors are required to be very rugged and heavy-duty. They are usually constructed of 12” to 15” channel iron frames, channel cross supports, 4-ply belts with beefy cleats, UHMW skirting, 10” to 12” pulleys and large drives with large D-coils large enough for bales to go through but sensitive enough to protect the Shredder. Bunting® Magnetics Co. also designs large heavy-duty infeed hoppers for these applications to take this abuse.
Standard-Duty GFC Conveyors
These Customers are recycling “in house” scrap along with purchasing in some supplemental material. They may be shredding and grinding up anything from plastic pallets to scrap bumpers, stringers, carpet, wood pallets, plastic bottles, tires or even glass bottles or wood pallets. They may not think they need a Metal Detector to protect their Shredder because they are processing their own material but the Metal Detector easily pays for it’s self by preventing just one crash. These applications almost always require Magnetic and Metal Detection Separation down stream to clean the product after the Shredder before running it into an extruder. These units are fabricated formed steel framed conveyors with 6” to 10” diameter pulleys, 2-ply belts with standard cleats or cleat topped belts, and either UHMW or rubber skirting.
Light-Duty GFC Conveyors
These are usually hand feed systems of either scrap parts or stringers for in house beside the machine recycling. They are constructed of a fabricated steel frame, smaller drives, under the belt plate Coils and 3” to 6” pulleys with an inexpensive smooth or ruff-topped belts. Our Move-It Conveyors with SL coils are also great economical conveyors for these applications.
