Liquid Trap Information
Powerful Rare Earth Separation
All BuntingĀ® Cartridge-Style Liquid Traps are equipped with our Neodymium High-Intensity – NHI – Magnetic Cartridges, which lead the industry in their ability to attract and hold ferrous and weakly magnetic particles. These traps utilize a double-row of NHI cartridges oriented in the direction of product flow. This design offers three distinct performance advantages.
- Cartridges cover the entire flow yet are more closely spaced to create closer product contact with the magnetic field.
- With two rows of cartridges, the product flow is exposed to a backup row to collect tramp that might evade the first row.
- As the liquid product weaves through the cartridge grid, the inertia of ferrous tramp tends to keep it flowing on a straight course. With two closely spaced cartridge rows, there is no direct path by which ferrous particles can avoid contacting a cartridge surface, where the magnetic fields are strongest.
Mounting Location and Position
Thoughtful location and positioning of liquid traps can prevent maintenance problems and enhance overall performance. Their versatility and simple design help make it easy to locate traps in areas that are readily accessible for maintenance and cleaning. To protect against the greatest number of contaminant sources, install liquid traps in lines just before the next contaminant-sensitive operation, such as mixing, packaging, inspection, etc. To prevent damage to traps from overpressure, they should be installed on the suction side of pumps or as far away as practical on the discharge side.
In most cases, traps can be installed at any angle without affecting magnetic separation. For convenience, liquid traps should always be mounted vertically when used in a CIP, clean-in-place, system, so that the housing will drain itself of all liquids. Mount other units horizontally with the magnetic lid at the top at 90 degrees for most convenient cleaning or with the lid on the side at 0 or 180 degrees to facilitate purging or frequent manual cleaning of the housing interior.
